Role Management

Roles define a set of permissions and apps for a group of users.  Each user may be assigned multiple roles (in which case, they will receive the permissions/apps given to each role they are assigned to).

For instance, a role can be defined that has “View” but not “Edit” access to the system, or a role can be defined that can publish content but not edit it.

Roles can also be assigned to limit access to specific apps- for instance, a role can be defined that has full access to Digital Signs, but no access to Workstation Screensavers.

Built-In Roles

The following roles are built into eScreenz:

  • Admin – Full access to all apps and eScreenz features.
  • Global Publisher – Access to edit and publish content for all apps, but may not configure other aspects of the eScreenz dashboard (such as managing users, urgent notifications, etc.)

Add/Edit Roles

  • Name – Display name of the role (required)
  • Global Permissions – Permissions that the user has over the eScreenz dashboard:
    • EditApps – User has access to edit app content in general (permissions for specific apps must still be assigned)
    • ManageADGroups – User can edit the list of AD groups available to eScreenz to target
    • ManageDevices – User can register new digital signage devices or reassign devices to other apps
    • ManageProxies – User can view and edit the list of eScreenz Proxy/Relay services
    • ManageRoles – User can edit/create new dashboard user roles
    • ManageUrgentNotifications – User can publish and unpublish Urgent Notifications
    • ManageUsers – User can edit/create new dashboard users
  • App Permissions – A grid that allows the administrator to assign permissions to app(s) within the system
    • “All Apps” – Permissions assigned to this will automatically be assigned to all apps in the system
    • View – Can view but not edit the app’s content
    • Edit – Can edit app’s content
    • Publish – Can publish app’s content so it is ultimately received by eScreenz devices
    • Owner – Full access to the apps
